Chris Sullivan from KIRO radio interviewed George Patterson, founder of Self Serve Garage, to find out how people can rent a bay and fix their own car.  During the radio segment George discussed how he made the decision to open Self Serve Garage.

“He hatched an idea for a self-serve garage after he made a trip to his dealership. “I felt like I was raked over the coals when the dealership told me a tune-up for my Jeep Grand Cherokee was over $600,” he told me. Labor for that bill was $400. So he researched the job, bought the parts and did the job himself. If he could do it, why couldn’t someone else?”

The Community of Kent is buzzing about having the Pacific Northwest’s only do-it-yourself auto repair shop.   Laura Pierce, Kent Reporter Editor, stopped by to learn about Self Serve Garage.  Her visit resulted in a news story titled, “Self-Serve Garage in Kent offers space, tools, info, for doing your own repairs” in the business section of the Kent Reporter.

“Just like a professional garage, Patterson’s business has a hydraulic lift for under-body repairs, a wheel lift, diagnostic equipment, and a full compliment of tools. He’s also operating “green,” meaning that nearly everything that counts as waste will be recycled, from cardboard to metal. He’s also set up to take waste transmission fluid and oil from his customers’ repairs.”
